Appointments

We want to help you get to the right person in the right way. Some issues are best dealt with online, some are best booked directly, and some are better seen by a nurse, pharmacist or another member of the wider team.

Choosing the right route

  • Not urgent, and can be described in writing — use eConsult. A clinician will reply, usually the same day.
  • Minor illness — go to any pharmacy. No appointment needed.
  • You need help today — phone us on 01461 202745.
  • A routine appointment — book online or phone us.
  • A muscle or joint problem — ask for Advanced Practice Physiotherapy.
  • We are closed — call NHS 24 on 111. In an emergency, call 999.

What eConsult is best used for

Good for: fit notes and extensions, medication queries, admin requests, advice about a problem you already have, and skin or infection problems where you can add a photo.

Not for anything likely to need same-day assessment or examination — significant abdominal pain, chest symptoms, painful eye problems, worrying headaches, new weakness or numbness, or anything getting worse quickly. Phone us instead.

What happens when you call

Every call for an on-the-day appointment is assessed by our triage team. Reception will ask briefly what the problem is. They are not making clinical decisions — it lets the triage team route you to the right person. You will be offered one of:

  • Same day — very urgent or time-critical problems.
  • Within 7 days — less urgent, where waiting will not be detrimental.
  • Routine, 2 to 3 weeks — not urgent, can be dealt with in due course.

You may not need to see a GP

Our nurses can deal with dressings, wound care and suture removal; blood pressure checks and long-term condition reviews; eczema, rashes and skin reactions; ear problems; and minor illness including sore throats, coughs and asthma.

  • Advanced Practice Physiotherapy — joint, back, neck and muscle problems, and sports injuries.
  • Primary Care Mental Health — low mood, anxiety, stress and bereavement.
  • CTAC and treatment room — blood tests, ECGs and injections.

NHS Pharmacy First Scotland

For minor illness, go to a pharmacy first. No appointment needed, and you can use any pharmacy in Scotland that dispenses NHS prescriptions.

They treat sore throat, earache, cough, diarrhoea, constipation, cold sores, eczema, impetigo, thrush, threadworms, cystitis and urinary tract infections in women, and much more. If you need a GP, the pharmacist will tell you.

Home visits

Home visits are for patients who are housebound, or too unwell to travel to the surgery. Feeling very unwell is not on its own a reason for a home visit. Most illnesses are better assessed at the surgery, where we have equipment we cannot bring to your home.

  • Please call before 10:00am to request a visit.
  • A GP may call you back first to assess whether a visit is the safest option.

Clinics and specialist services

  • Long-term conditions — asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease.
  • Women’s health — cervical screening, contraception, HRT reviews.
  • Child health — immunisations, developmental checks.
  • Minor surgery — skin lesions, joint injections.

Book clinic appointments through reception or eConsult.

We no longer provide travel health or travel vaccinations. These are available privately from travel clinics. Check fitfortravel for what you need for your destination.
