Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions

If you take regular medication, you can request a repeat prescription in the following ways:

  • Patient Online Services — the quickest option. Log in and select the items you need. Go to Patient Online Services
  • eConsult — use an admin request if your medication does not appear in Patient Online Services.
  • Prescription slip — tear off the repeat slip from your last prescription and post it through the prescription box at reception.

Please allow 2 working days before contacting your pharmacy.

New prescriptions

If you need a medication that has not been prescribed before, you will need a consultation with a GP or nurse first. Please submit an eConsult or telephone the practice.

Where your prescription goes

Prescriptions are sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy by default. If you would prefer to collect from the surgery, please let us know when you order.

Medications not showing in Patient Online Services

Some medications cannot be ordered online. If yours does not appear, submit an admin request via eConsult.

Benzodiazepines and sleeping tablets

Medicines such as diazepam, lorazepam, temazepam and zopiclone can cause dependence and withdrawal symptoms. They can also cause drowsiness and increase the risk of falls and driving accidents.

For these reasons, we do not routinely prescribe these medicines for:

  • Anxiety or short-term stress
  • Fear of flying
  • Anxiety about scans, dental work or other procedures
  • Ongoing or recurring sleep problems

We can help you explore other ways to manage anxiety or sleep problems. If you are worried about a procedure, please contact the team carrying it out to discuss support.

In exceptional circumstances, a clinician may recommend a short course after assessing your needs. Repeat prescriptions are not usually offered.

Already taking one of these medicines regularly? Do not stop suddenly or reduce your dose without medical advice. We will review your treatment with you and, where appropriate, support you with a gradual reduction.
